Loan prequalification vs. pre-approval
Getting pre-qualified for a loan can help you determine what you can afford. Though it is a good idea to contact a licensed mortgage broker or banker for this information, this mortgage calculator can give you, the Buyer, a basic idea of what price range would be ideal for you.  This is a basic form of pre-qualification.  A pre-approval would come after actual loan application through a mortgage lender.  Any offer to purchase real estate will require a special form filled out by you, the buyer, regarding what type of financing you plan to use, as well as a section filled out by a lender showing that they have reviewed your credit and are determining your ability to purchase a property at that price point.
